Here are the songs I listened to for the duration of the writing, planning and creating stages of my game. These songs are mosly from the 90's, punk rock/ alternative, very indie and mostly sung by women (Last past wasnt intentional i feel the music sung by women fit the game more than men.)
The band was formed in 2003 by a group of friends from brazil and their fame was gathered from the internet at the time ad also tow members of the band where part of the underground culture club which also helped them get noticed.
Later they hit number 63 in the US charts after their song was featured in a apple commercial which made the band the highest Brazilian band to reach that high in the US charts and the Zune media player as well.
A few of CSS songs are in other video games such as Forza: Motorsport 2, FIFA 08 and 09 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles round about 2008.
Fun Fact! CSS is short for "Cansei de Ser Sexy" in Portuguese which means "tired of being sexy" in English.
I want to use this song as I feel it sounds amazing as a song for the opening animation also it just nearly fits the transition effects for the opening splash screen.
The genre of the music also fit my game as it has a indie pop-rock sound which was the other reason i wanted it in my game.
Sleater- Kinney was a all girl band which formed in 1994, the name Sleater-Kinney was names after a road (Sleater-Kinney Road) in Lacey, Washington which was a near an interstate that the band practiced nearby. One of the three band members was formaly in the bands Roit Grrrl and Heavens to Betsy while another formaly played Excuse 17.
Sleater-Kenny was a side band alongside there current bands until they left them to full become Sleater-Kinney in the later 90s.
I choose this band to be in my game because their music sounds very idie rock but less pop-rock when you listen to it. The guitar is more present that the bass and drums and the songs are sometimes slow then builds up to then slow down again throught their songs. I feel having songs by Sleater-Kinney add a bit a slight variety from CSS in terms of different type of rock music also i related this band to something the main character would listen too as a "favourte band".
Le-Tigre (which means "The Tiger" in french) was formed in 1998 in New York. Le Tigre was known for lyrics which were often about feminisim and LBGT community issues of the time. The punk rock group used electronics in their music which is still great to listen to along with their powerful lyrics.
I chose this band to be in my game as i liked their electro-punk music and i feel its another sub-genre of music which my game could benifit both as music that sounds different from the others i have chosen. I feel having the electronic music mixed with other sounds and rock music is a unqie mix which should break up the other sub-genres of rock music i wanted to add.
