Research

These are all the books and graphic novels/ comics I have looked at for my project, they are all either created in the 80's and 90's in america or at least based form those timer periods which make them perfect sources to look at my game which also share the same time and setting.
I looked at the Comic books I had and did't think any of them would cut it as useful research other than the obvious Scott Pilgrim books which i use way to much across all my projects, this time I would look at something new; just so happens I found a new graphic novel series called: LOVE & ROCKETS.
LOVE & ROCKETS is a long going comic-book series created by Gilbert Jamie and Mario Hernandez since 1983 - 1996.
These books where printed in black and white and had various stories with a cast of characters appearing in the respective stories. The 'Locas' stories are the comics i will be looking at as i find the art style, character designs, the backgrounds and the dialog in the books themselves is something i want my game to have as well.

I recently picked up a copy of Love & Rockets: The Covers which is a collection of all the printed covers and alternative covers created for all of the 50 issue series. I have a collection of images form this book that i will use to learn how to draw lips, body, expressions and body posture so i can make my own characters look a lot like the ones in Love and Rockets - while still having differences so my character will look different as characters.

Lost at sea is a book written by Brian Lee O'Mally - the same guy who created the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels. This first graphic novel he published and is really good to read. The story is about a girl called Raleigh who takes a road trip with a bunch of younger collage students driving back 'up' america to home in Canada.
The story is mostly told from Raleigh perspective as she tries to recall the events of her reason to go down to america to see her dad in California and meeting her lover and the road trip back with a bunch of random collage students for a ride back, at the end of the book Raleigh pieces things together with the help of her new friends and they finally drive home.

I'm going to look at this book for the art and designs of the interiors, exteriors/ locations and the designs of the characters which i want to blend with the love and rockets art style (so haircuts of characters from this book and the face structure of the love and rockets books.)

Buffy the vampire slayer is popular tv show from the 90's about a girl in collage fighting vampires who seek to harm humanity as she is the 'Slayer'. The one book I have from the series of comic books is issue 99 and it's about a town that gets obsessed over these new creepy troll toys that are being sold from a mysterious store. Unaware of the owners of the toys at night the little trolls will get up and steal priceless possessions as the owners sleep.
But because the owners are obsessed on the toys they don't really mind losing their unreplaceable jewellery and its up to buffy to solve the mystery of these little tolls of the town.

I own one of the comic books form the series (Issue 99) and I thought I should look at if for research because of its art style and use of different drawing techniques and shading for shadows and textures of materials of buildings, clothes and objects, everything is really detailed in each frame which is useful if i want to add more detail to an object in my game.
I also want to look at facial expressions and face directions as there are alot on complicated angles in this book which i can use to create my own characters in the same posistions or angles. I will also see if i can look at the other books from the same series to see if there is more to useful material to look and learn to draw from.
